Japanese Facial Lifting · Kobido

Ultra-fast fingertip percussion, facial kneading and lymphatic drainage. It sounds intense and it isn't: no devices, no needles, no aggressive product. The result is a natural lifting effect and — almost always unexpectedly for first-timers — a jaw that stops aching.

What it is and where it comes from

Kobido means "the ancient way of beauty".

It began in Japan in 1472 and for centuries was reserved for the imperial household. It passed down by direct lineage from master to student, and even today the number of practitioners trained in the tradition is small.

Its logic isn't cosmetic but muscular: the face has more than forty muscles that hold tension just as the back does. Clenching your jaw, furrowing your brow or straining your eyes keeps them contracted. Kobido works them one by one — which is where both the lifting effect and the jaw relief come from.

What you'll feel

A lifting effect visible right away

The most immediate and most talked-about. A more defined jawline and less downturned features the moment you get up, with no product or devices.

Goodbye clenched jaw

The benefit nobody expects. If you grind your teeth or clench under stress, work on the masseter and temporalis also eases the associated headache.

A de-puffed face

Lymphatic drainage reduces under-eye bags and the facial swelling that comes from poor sleep or fluid retention.

Skin that glows

Activating microcirculation clears a dull tone. It's why many people book it the day before an event.

Who it's for — and who should check first

Especially good if you

  • Clench your jaw or grind your teeth at night
  • Notice a puffy face or dull skin tone
  • Want a lifting effect without injectables
  • Have an event and want to arrive looking rested
  • Spend long hours at screens and strain your eyes
  • Want a facial treatment that genuinely relaxes as well

Talk to us first if you

  • Have recently had botox, fillers or thread lifts — a 2 to 4 week wait is needed
  • Have rosacea, inflammatory acne or a dermatitis flare-up
  • Have had a chemical peel or laser treatment within the last month
  • Have couperose or prominent facial capillaries
  • Have acute sinusitis or an active facial infection
  • Have recent dental prostheses or have had maxillofacial surgery

If you've had any aesthetic facial treatment, tell us when booking even if it was a while ago: the technique mobilises tissue and should be adjusted accordingly.

Frequently asked questions

Is it the same as a facial cleanse?

No. A facial cleanse works on the skin: extraction, products, masks. Kobido works the muscle underneath, by hand and without active product. They're complementary treatments, not alternatives.

How long does the effect last?

The visible lifting effect lasts 3 to 7 days from a single session. For a lasting change, a course of 4 to 6 weekly sessions followed by monthly maintenance is typical. The jaw relief usually outlasts the cosmetic effect.

Can I have it if I've had botox?

You need to wait. As a general rule, 2 to 4 weeks after botox or fillers, since massage could displace the product. Tell us the exact date when booking and we'll confirm whether it's safe yet.

Does the percussion hurt?

No. It's fast but very light: the sensation is vibration, not impact. What can feel tender is the work on the jaw if you clench a lot — and there it's the kind of discomfort that relieves.

Do I need to remove my make-up?

Yes, make-up is removed at the start. You'll finish with a light oil on the skin, so it isn't the best plan right before dinner. Better to book it the day before.

Is it only for women?

Not at all. Among men it's one of the most booked precisely because of jaw clenching: many come for the jaw and find the facial effect a bonus.
